Weekly Reflection #4
Focused Ed!
https://focusedresources.ca/digital-classroom-accessFocused Ed is a free digital resource for BC Teachers. The platform hosts numerous sites that can aid teachers and students in learning everything from Kindergarten English Language Arts to 12th grade Biology.
My favourite resource that Focused Ed provides acess for is “Live It Earth”. It is a FANTASTIC resource for teaching science to elementary students. The resources are sorted by topic and each topic contains full lessons, activities including STEM challenges, and TV shows produced and created in Canada by Canadians.
Live It Earth is a local BC company based in Nelson. The company does an excellent job working with BC locals, including First Peoples and Indigenous communities.
Each lesson is directly connected to the BC Curriculum and is easy to use for teachers. The material is super engaging, and I found myself watching multiple videos out of pure enjoyment.

One lesson in particular that I will definitely be using in my future teaching practice is the salmon unit. It goes into great detail about the science behind salmon runs and the importance that salmon have to local indigenous communities.
Live It Earth is worth a look! If you are a BC teacher, you will have a free subscription through your district’s Focused Ed code.
Sasha, thanks for sharing your thoughts and excitement about the Focused ED resources. I look forward to hearing what you have to say about the workshops that take us further into some of them.
Curate and bookmark the ones you plan to use.
