Weekly Reflection #3

This week, we explored different ways to design for learning. In EDCI 335 last semester I learned lots about Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Backwards Design. However, the class did not cover the ADDIE model for design. Unlike UDL and Backwards design principals the ADDIE model works to improve lessons throughout the planning process and the execution of the lesson.

“ADDIE” stands for:

A- Analyze

D- Design

D- Develop

I- Implement

E- Evaluate

By using the ADDIE principals teachers are conscious of the implementation of their lesson and can be focused on adapting their lessons based on student needs. UDL works to include students of diverse learning needs into the lesson design process and so does the ADDIE principal; however, where UDL lacks a step to reevaluate your lesson, ADDIE encourages teachers to give themselves and have others give them feedback to integrate. A lesson can never be perfect and no two groups of students ever have the same learning needs so it is important for teachers to continually adapt and rethink lessons.

As mentioned previously, I have already taken a class in which we created a blog post about UDL and Backwards Design for Learning. If you want to know more about these design concepts please visit the post linked below:
